So, unless you have been living under a rock the past couple of months, you’ve probably heard of the KONY 2012 movement. (If you haven’t, PLEASE check it out…especially if you are a parent!!!)

Anyway, this past week called for a movement across the world to post signs helping to draw attention to this campaign…and this man who needs to be captured and punished for his crimes against humanity, particularly children.

Being the “slacktivist” that I am, I was all for it! I posted flyers around my neighborhood and helped get the word out.

Unfortunately, some people are just idiots and can’t help but doing things to showcase their idiocy. As Andy and I were walking home from the deli last night, we noticed someone had posted a flyer on top of the KONY poster I had put up. It basically said, “Oh, do tell me about how you’ve always been concerned for the lives of children in Uganda.”. It had a Willy Wonka picture on it, just to punctuate the statement.

Andy and I immediately reacted the same way. I laughed and said, “Well, actually, I have been interested in the lives of Ugandan children for quite some time…seeing as how I lived there for a while after being called to serve in Uganda back in 2008.”

I get what the person was saying…why all the hype now? Well, because this man, Joseph KONY, needs to be stopped and people need to be made aware. And, honestly, so what if you just heard about this campaign?! You know NOW and like GI Joe said, “Knowing is half the battle.”. Look how far we have progressed in the last decade with becoming aware of the plight of the hungry, the orphans, the widows, the downtrodden. Maybe we aren’t quite there yet in our ACTION, but we are becoming more aware and that is never a bad thing. Awareness leads to movement.

So, to the joker who posted that sign, I have one thing to say: “Glad you know who KONY is now!” Jerk!!! ;0)

…who need YOUR help (aka money)!!!  :O)  This past March, I was able to spend several days at the Thagimi Orphanage and School.  It is an AMAZING place for about 17 orphans, who are being given the opportunity to have a future.  The staff is so sweet and we are going to do everything we can to help them keep doing what they are doing!

The school is in desperate need of resources (chalkboards, tables, chairs, etc) and we are fundraising specifically to get the money to help build these items for the school on our summer trips.  I will be going back to Haiti in June and July and would LOVE to help make all of this happen if we can raise the funds in time.  Right now, we need $1500 to help build everything, so if you can graciously donate some to help us reach our goal, you would be my new hero!  Check out this link to make a donation!
